CFOB update on Burma VJ screenings

The screening of ‘Burma VJ: reporting from a closed country,’ was officially launched in Canada on Aug. 7, 2009 on the occasion of 21st Anniversary of 8888 democracy uprising in Burma. The screenings took place simultaneously at Mayfair Cinema in Ottawa from Aug.7 to 11 and the Royal Theatre in Toronto from Aug. 7 to 13. The private screenings were also held at Old Fire House in Whitehorse, Yukon on Aug. 11 and at YWCA Hotel in Vancouver, BC on Aug. 15.
Whitehorse screening was hosted by local MP and Chair of Parliamentary Friends of Burma Hon. Larry Bagnell and CFOB executive director Tin Maung Htoo was present in the event. Tin Maung Htoo also attended the private screening in Vancouver along with Vancouver Burma activists. The private screenings were also held on Parliament Hill and during Burma Working Group meeting in Toronto in May this year. The film sponsored by Montreal-based Rights and Democracy was first screened at Hot Doc Film Festival in Toronto.
As the screenings took place in Ottawa and Toronto in August, CFOB launched a postcard campaign, urging the Prime Minister of Canada to continue humanitarian assistance to Burmese refugees in neighbouring countries and secure the adoption of a UNSC binding resolution on Burma.
It is available to view at www.cfob.org and can be ordered for the distribution by contacting CFOB office in Ottawa. It will be also available in Burma VJ screenings in other cities that will be announced as screening information is ready.
